As the fall 25' semester comes to an end, I reflect on a very creative past couple of months. This semester, I had the opportunity to be able to work with Bolex film cameras to create short films for my film class. With great guidance from my professor, Kevin Everson, I was able to learn how to load, light, and shoot Black and White 16mm Reversal film. Along with learning how to manually handle the camera, I learned the importance of time, light, and movement that come into play for film. Some details that were not apparent to me before became crucial in whether or not my film would turn out the way I wanted. Pointing and shooting a camera didn't just come from pressing a button to record, but instead became an action of awareness and attention to detail. I really enjoyed learning how to interact with the physical version of media I have been interested in since I was little. I am glad to have started my journey in learning how to shoot film, and I can't wait to bring color into the picture.
